Trust is not built through authority. This we know is so outdated.
It’s built through communication and not just in general but good communication which I eluded to in my last blog.
When leaders communicate clearly, consistently, and authentically, teams feel safe , and safety drives performance.
The Three Trust Builders
1. Transparency
Say what’s happening. Don’t keep teams in the dark unless the information is P&C for obvious reasons.
Say why it matters. Things work better and reduce the need to update often when everyone knows the why
Say what’s next. This is all about managing expectations , reduce surprises they tend to often back fire badly
2. Consistency
Your team should never guess who you’ll be today.
There is something uneasy about working for a Jeckyll and Hyde type leader that can be very unnerving and does not instill confidence. Even if staff have known you for years and can laugh off your ” moods” at the end of the day the consistent leader is always more respected.
3. Empathy
People don’t need perfection. You are human its reasonable.
But what they do need is presence.
The Trust Equation
Trust = Communication + Behaviour + Time You can’t shortcut trust.
But you can accelerate it through intentional communication
